丁元,2004年获北京航空航天大学电子工程学士学位,2007年获清华大学电子工程硕士学位,2014年获英国贝尔法斯特女王大学电子工程博士学位。2007年至2009年,在北京摩托罗拉研发中心担任射频(RF)工程师。2009年至2011年,在北京飞思卡尔半导体有限公司的射频场应用工程师,负责高功率基站放大器设计。现为英国爱丁堡赫瑞瓦特大学传感器、信号与系统研究所(ISSS)副教授。主要研究方向为物联网(IoT)相关物理层设计、天线阵列、物理层安全、5G相关领域。获LAPC 2013年IET最佳学生论文奖、2014年XXXIst URSI大会和科学研讨会(GASS)青年科学家奖、2023年Proceedings of the IEEE最佳论文奖。

Yuan Ding received the bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Beihang University (BUAA), Beijing, China, in 2004, the master’s degree in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, U.K., in 2014. He was a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer with the Motorola Research and Development Centre, Beijing, from 2007 to 2009. He was an RF Field Application Engineer with Freescale Semiconductor Inc., Beijing, responsible for high-power base-station amplifier design, from 2009 to 2011. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Institute of Sensors, Signals and Systems (ISSS), Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K. His research interests include the Internet of Things (IoT)-related physical layer designs, antenna array, physical layer security, and 5G-related areas. He was a recipient of the IET Best Student Paper Award from LAPC 2013 and the Young Scientists Awards in General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GASS) from the 2014 XXXIst URSI. He is also the co-recipient of 2023 Best Paper Award for the Proceedings of the IEEE.

课程简介(中英文):

这个暑期课程将提供信息如何无线传输的入门知识。将涵盖的知识包括 1.什么是信息,如何衡量/量化信息;2.无线传输系统架构,以及每个型号的基本功能;3. 什么是无线信道,它是如何测量、建模、模拟的。4. 什么是数字基带,我们为什么需要它。5.什么是射频模块,天线,为什么我们需要它们。6. 无线通信系统的实际实现。7. 无线系统的其他一些变体。本课程将涉及通信理论、信号处理、微波工程。绝大部分课程内容以概念讲解为主,很少涉及数学公式和方程。课程结束后,学生将对构建实用无线通信系统的不同模块有基本的了解,从而为学生未来的学习和研究重点提供更好的指导。该课程将被压缩到一周内,因为另一周还有其他活动。 

This summer course will provide introductory knowledge on how information is wirelessly transmitted. The knowledge that will be covered includes  1. What is information, and how is it measured/quantified;  2. Wireless transmission system architecture, and the basic function for each model;  3. What is wireless channel, how is it measured, modelled, simulated.  4. What is digital baseband, why we need it.  5. What is radio frequency modules, antennas, why we need them. 6. Practical implementations of a wireless communication system.  7. Some other variants of wireless systems.  This course will involve communication theory, signal processing, microwave engineering. Most are delivered in conceptual format, and equations and mathematics will be minimum. After the course, the students will have basic understanding of different modules that construct a practical wireless communication system,so that this will provide better guidance to students on their future study and research focus. The class will be compressed into one week as there are other activities in the other week.
